Australian faces life in jail after allegedly being caught with meth in Bali

An Australian man, Sean Miller, could face life imprisonment in Bali after being charged with drug trafficking and other offences following a police raid on his guest house. The 50-year-old, from Subiaco in Western Australia, appeared before Denpasar District Court this week and denies the allegations, insisting to reporters "I don't need to sell drugs." The case highlights the severe risks foreign nationals face under Indonesia's tough anti-narcotics laws.

Miller was arrested on 5 April after specialist drug officers, acting on a tip-off, searched his guest house in West Denpasar and allegedly found 600 milligrams of methamphetamine, along with a glass pipe, a bong and an iPhone. Prosecutor Putu Delia told the court he was accused of unlawfully selling, buying or brokering narcotics, in addition to possession and personal drug use charges. He was led away in handcuffs after the hearing, with the trial due to resume next week when witnesses are expected to testify; Indonesia's drug penalties range up to life imprisonment or death.
