Bret Weinstein Unveils New Challenger To Washington’s Uniparty — And It Involves Thomas Massie
Bret Weinstein says he is working with the Libertarian Party’s Mises Caucus on a “friendly takeover” and rebranding of the party as the American Liberty Party. He hopes the new party could attract supporters from both left and right and provide a route for outgoing Republican Representative Thomas Massie to run for president in 2028.
Weinstein described Massie as a potential candidate who had paid a price for his principles, but said Massie had not agreed to run and was supportive of the effort. Massie lost Kentucky’s 4th District Republican primary in May to Ed Gallrein, who won 54.4% of the vote; Massie has since filed to run for the House seat again in 2028. His disputes with Donald Trump have included the Epstein files, tariffs, spending legislation and the conflict with Iran.
In short
- Bret Weinstein plans to rebrand the Libertarian Party as the American Liberty Party.
- He hopes to recruit Thomas Massie for a 2028 presidential run.
- Massie has not agreed and has filed to run for his House seat again.
