Speaking on a podcast about his book, he said stronger institutions, higher wages and healthier online environments could help people feel more connected and influential.

Murphy specifically criticised excessive time spent alone on platforms such as Instagram, while arguing that some proposed reforms are not inherently partisan. The White House criticised him personally, while lawmakers from both parties have considered stronger action against social-media companies, including changes to Section 230; some Republicans, however, question whether Congress has the expertise to regulate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
