Christian Eriksen and VfL Wolfsburg have agreed to end his contract by mutual consent, bringing an early close to his time at the German club. The decision follows the 34-year-old midfielder’s on-pitch collapse during a Denmark friendly against Ukraine in June and allows him to remain close to his family while recovering in Denmark.

Eriksen joined Wolfsburg as a free agent last summer and made 34 appearances, scoring three goals and providing 10 assists, although the club was relegated from the Bundesliga. His contract had been due to run until June 2027. The collapse was his second serious cardiac incident after his cardiac arrest during Euro 2020; he said his implantable defibrillator worked as intended and that his recovery had begun.
