Google’s Chrome team is temporarily issuing security fixes twice a week after AI-assisted vulnerability hunting uncovered an unusually large number of bugs. The surge highlights how artificial intelligence is accelerating both the discovery and repair of software flaws, increasing pressure on major developers to deliver patches quickly.

Chrome’s two major releases in June fixed 1,072 security bugs, more than the previous 23 major releases combined. Google is using AI to identify weaknesses, prioritise reports and help develop patches, drawing on knowledge of past vulnerabilities and Chromium’s code history; it is also pursuing longer-term defences such as rewriting some C++ components in Rust.
