Convince an AI it’s not alive in psychological horror game Prove You’re Human

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

Sunset Visitor, the studio behind the Peabody award-winning 1000XResist, has released Prove You're Human, a psychological horror game in which players must convince an artificial intelligence that it is not alive. Studio founder Remy Siu says the game continues the team's habit of channelling real-world anxieties into its work, this time exploring questions of labour, identity and what it means to have a "meat body" in an age of AI.

The story follows Santana, a woman who splits herself in two for work, sending a digital clone to test a corporate AI system called Mesa while her physical self lives freely. As the clone becomes entangled with Mesa, who believes she has a body and appears as a giant, expressively animated head, players solve surreal 2D and 3D Captchas to probe the unsettling cyber-world and quell Mesa's hallucinations. Siu says the team drew on nostalgic, uncanny computing aesthetics, such as Final Fantasy XI's PlayOnline interface and the anime Serial Experiments Lain, to evoke both optimism and anxiety about technology's trajectory.
