Coventry City have signed Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from Nordsjaelland for a club-record fee as they prepare for their return to the Premier League. The move underlines Coventry’s ambition after promotion under Frank Lampard, ending a 25-year absence from the top flight.

The 20-year-old has agreed a long-term contract in a deal worth an estimated £23.1m, with a further £2.5m in add-ons. Yirenkyi, Coventry’s fifth summer signing, scored twice in 15 Ghana appearances and featured at the World Cup, including a late winner against Panama; he was also named Danish Superliga young player of the year last season.
