The Scottish Football Association has called a “critically important” summit to discuss the future of the national game, with all Scottish Professional Football League clubs invited. It follows Scotland’s failure to progress from the group stage at the men’s World Cup, underlining concerns about the strength and long-term development of Scottish football.

The meeting will be held in St Andrews on 4 September and led by SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and chief football officer Craig Mulholland. Discussions will focus on improving opportunities for homegrown players, learning from clubs with successful elite-development systems, addressing current challenges and finding ways to increase clubs’ revenue.
