EA Brings Every Ultima and Wing Commander Game to Steam and GOG with Quality-of-Life Updates
EA is re-releasing 25 classic games on Steam, including the complete Ultima RPG series, Wing Commander titles and Road Rash. The launch makes these older games available to new audiences, with updated editions intended to work more smoothly on modern systems while preserving their original character.
Eighteen standard re-releases cost $4.99 each, while seven Anniversary Editions cost $9.99 each. EA says the refreshed versions improve system and controller support and performance; restoration work on the Wing Commander editions recovered and re-edited more than 1,500 cinematic scenes, and existing digital owners of those games on GOG or the EA App will receive the upgrade free.
In short
- EA is bringing 25 classic games to Steam.
- Standard editions cost $4.99; Anniversary Editions cost $9.99.

Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Re-releasing these games gives new players an accessible way to experience influential titles and helps preserve works that might otherwise become harder to run on current systems. The updates appear to address practical barriers such as compatibility and controller support, while the restoration work and free upgrades for some existing owners show care for the original games and their audiences.
The case against
Modernising older games can alter aspects of how they look or play, so even well-intentioned updates may not suit players who value the original experience. Charging for editions of decades-old titles may also feel less compelling to longtime fans, particularly if the changes are limited or the games were previously available through other services.
