BMW offers the next X5 with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains
BMW is offering the next-generation X5 with several powertrains, including petrol, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, to serve customers with different preferences. The article argues that the iX5 is the strongest option, pairing substantial range with very fast charging while bringing technology from BMW’s Neue Klasse electric vehicles to a larger SUV.
The petrol X5 40 xDrive has a 394 hp six-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid assistance, and BMW estimates about 26 mpg and 569 miles of range. A plug-in hybrid with a 26.5 kWh battery and roughly 44 miles of electric range is planned, as is a hydrogen fuel-cell version. The iX5 produces 570 hp, uses a 144 kWh battery and is expected to travel 450 miles on the EPA cycle; BMW says it can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 22 minutes with a 460 kW charger.
In short
- BMW will offer the new X5 with several powertrains.
- The iX5 is expected to cover 450 miles.
- It can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.
