Ewan McGregor Would Like to Play Obi-Wan Kenobi Again — Even If His ‘Star Wars’ Prequels Were “Dragged Through the Mud”

The Hollywood Reporter · 2 hours ago

Ewan McGregor has said he hopes to play Obi-Wan Kenobi again, suggesting there could be further television series or films centred on the Star Wars character. Speaking at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, he reflected on the initially harsh reception to the prequel trilogy and said the later Obi-Wan Kenobi series revealed stronger fan affection than he had expected.

McGregor said the prequels had been “dragged through the mud”, which discouraged him from attending fan conventions, but he was struck by the response from thousands at the Obi-Wan premiere. He found portraying the character easier in the Disney+ series because he was nearer the age Alec Guinness was when he played the older Obi-Wan; McGregor made the comments while in Scotland for Trainspotting’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.

  • McGregor wants to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
  • He was surprised by fans’ enthusiasm for the character.
  • The actor reflected on criticism of the prequel films.
