The Kimmel interview had attracted 6.8 million YouTube views by Saturday evening, following a similar Colbert interview with Talarico in February that drew 9.6 million views after being pulled from broadcast for the same reason. In January, Carr's FCC issued guidance suggesting daytime and late-night talk shows might not be exempt from the equal time rule, prompting an investigation into ABC's The View over its Talarico appearance. Kimmel has said the FCC's stance amounts to interference in editorial decisions, while the White House has denied any threats were made against him; Carr maintains the rule is about ensuring "more speech, not less" rather than censorship.
