Frenchman Fils reaches ATP Finals for first time
Arthur Fils has qualified for the ATP Finals for the first time after Quentin Halys beat Frances Tiafoe in the Paris Masters second round. The result secured Fils’s place in the season-ending event and makes him the first French player to compete there since Gaël Monfils in 2016.
The 22-year-old world number seven won the Cincinnati Open, his first ATP Masters 1000 title, and the Barcelona Open this year, despite missing the Australian and French Opens through injury. He joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and Flavio Cobolli among the qualifiers; Jannik Sinner has also qualified but is injured and will not play, with two places still available. The tournament is scheduled for Turin from 15 to 22 November.
