British teenager Filip Nowacki won gold in a dramatic men’s 200m breaststroke final at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris, underlining his emergence as one of Great Britain’s leading young swimmers. His late surge secured victory by a narrow margin and followed his Commonwealth Games title last month, adding to an already impressive season.

The 18-year-old clocked 2:07.70, beating the Netherlands’ Caspar Corbeau by 0.08 seconds, while Austria’s Luka Mladenovic took bronze; fellow Briton Gregory Butler was fifth. Great Britain also won two bronzes: Lauren Cox finished third in the women’s 50m backstroke, where Italy’s Sara Curtis set a world record of 26.56 seconds, and Freya Colbert placed third in the women’s 200m freestyle.
