The Global Citizen Festival at New York's Central Park has been cancelled for this weekend due to an extreme weather forecast from a brewing Nor'easter affecting the northeast United States. Organisers made the difficult decision in consultation with the City of New York and NYC Parks, citing dangerous conditions that would make it unsafe to host tens of thousands of attendees, artists, and crew on the Great Lawn. This is the first cancellation in the festival's 14-year history, highlighting the severity of the weather threat.

The festival was scheduled to feature prominent artists including Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, and Alicia Keys, with Hugh Jackman as host. The same Nor'easter has also forced the cancellation of Ed Sheeran's shows at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts and the All Things Go festival in Forest Hills, Queens. Organisers stated they worked through numerous contingencies before deciding cancellation was necessary, and have pledged to donate festival food to local organisations serving New York City residents. They confirmed the festival will return to Central Park next year.
