Jesse Eisenberg Says He ‘Couldn’t Get Movie Studio Parts Anymore’ After Winning A Razzie For ‘Batman v Superman’: ‘The Industry Did Not Want Me to Be in a Superhero Movie’

Variety ·

Jesse Eisenberg says winning a Razzie for playing Lex Luthor in *Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice* made it harder for him to get parts in studio films. He says he feared his acting career was declining, so he turned to writing and directing to keep it going.

At a BFI London Film Festival talk, Eisenberg said he took the award as a sign that the industry did not want him in superhero films. The 2016 film earned $424.1 million globally and received four Razzies. Eisenberg also discussed his film *A Real Pain*, including how producer Emma Stone helped ensure Kieran Culkin arrived in Poland for filming.

Jesse Eisenberg is an American actor who became widely known for playing Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network. In 2016, he played Lex Luthor, a major Superman adversary, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a film bringing together two of DC Comics’ best-known superheroes.

The Razzies are awards that single out films and performances their organisers consider the year’s worst. Eisenberg’s Razzie was one of four given to the film, which nevertheless reached a large cinema audience. He has also written and directed films, work that can offer actors another way to continue making projects when screen roles are harder to find.
