Rock legend Joan Jett has cancelled two upcoming concerts after undergoing orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebra, with her team confirming she needs time to heal before returning to the stage. The announcement, posted to her social media on 5 August, means fans in two US cities will miss out on scheduled autumn performances, though Jett is expected to make a full recovery and resume touring in due course.

The cancelled shows are in Costa Mesa, California, on 5 September, and Louisville, Kentucky, on 24 September. Jett, who formed The Blackhearts in 1979 and became a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, said she will focus on physical therapy during her recovery and is looking forward to performing again "for many years to come." The news comes as her band prepares to release a 45th-anniversary reissue of their 1981 album "I Love Rock 'N Roll" on 28 August via Blackheart Records.
