Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has again rejected US President Donald Trump's 15-point plan to end the Gaza war, telling his cabinet on Sunday that Israeli forces will not withdraw until Hamas is fully disarmed of "heavy weaponry, lighter weaponry, all weaponry". The statement highlights a widening rift between the two allies, as Trump pushes for progress towards ending the conflict while Netanyahu, facing an election on 27 October, is also under pressure from far-right coalition partners opposed to concessions in Gaza.

Under Trump's plan, agreed in principle by both Israel and Hamas, Israeli troops would withdraw as Hamas disarms, with an International Stabilization Force and a new Palestinian police force securing the territory. However, the two sides disagree on sequencing: Israel insists it will not move before disarmament, while Hamas wants Israeli attacks halted first. Israel has nonetheless scaled back military action in Gaza since a meeting last Monday between Netanyahu and Trump's Gaza envoy Nikolay Mladenov, reportedly limiting strikes to immediate threats and halting near-daily targeted assassinations. Hamas official Basem Naim said the group remained committed to the roadmap agreed in Cairo, while Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich backed Netanyahu's hard line, insisting reconstruction cannot begin before Hamas is fully dismantled.
