An Oregon nurse has sued Fred Meyer for $1 million, alleging that her hand became stuck to a heated metal part of a supermarket rotisserie-chicken display in Eugene. Angela Steffen claims the incident caused third-degree burns, infection and lasting damage, while Fred Meyer says it cannot comment on ongoing litigation.

The lawsuit alleges the display lacked a protective barrier or warning sign, and that a staff member offered only a plaster and said similar incidents happened frequently. Steffen reportedly required antibiotics and emergency treatment, incurred about $11,000 in medical costs and lost wages, and claims permanent scarring, nerve damage and weakness; Fred Meyer has not yet filed a formal response.
