Nvidia DLSS 5’s AI yassification filter reportedly escapes containment ahead of release, thanks to modders digging files out of NBA 2K27

Modders have reportedly activated Nvidia’s unreleased DLSS 5 neural-rendering technology in Control after discovering relevant files in the early-access PC version of NBA 2K27. The experiment matters because it offers an early, unofficial indication of how the AI-based facial rendering feature may work before Nvidia’s planned release later this year.

The modded version reportedly affects only character models, lacks HDR support and causes severe performance loss even on an RTX 5070 Ti, with one contributor calling it effectively unusable. It offers seven facial-filter styles and may rely on inputs already used by existing DLSS upscaling, leading modders to suggest that Unreal Engine 5 games could be comparatively straightforward to support.

  • Modders reportedly ran unreleased DLSS 5 in Control.
  • The current unofficial implementation performs poorly.
  • Findings hint at broader compatibility with existing DLSS inputs.
