NVIDIA’s controversial DLSS 5 is coming to RTX Remix to ‘enhance’ older games
Nvidia plans to add DLSS 5 to its free RTX Remix modding platform on 23 October, giving users a way to apply its AI-driven lighting effects to older games. The move extends a controversial technology that can substantially change how characters and scenes look, prompting concerns that it may alter games’ original artistic intent.
RTX Remix already lets users add ray tracing and AI-upscaled textures to classic titles. DLSS 5 is also due to reach RTX Spark on 16 October and Hogwarts Legacy on 5 November; unlike earlier DLSS versions, it can reduce frame rates. Community tools can inject it into many DirectX and Vulkan games on RTX graphics cards, though games using anti-cheat software may not launch with the modifications.
In short
- DLSS 5 is coming to RTX Remix on 23 October.
- Its lighting effects can change older games’ appearance.
- The technology may reduce frame rates and conflict with anti-cheat.
