NYC mom vomits as ‘monster’ friend who stabbed her 22 times with young daughter in next room receives light sentence 

A Bronx judge sentenced Christopher Joseph to eight and a half years in prison for stabbing Kaitlynn Berman 22 times in her home. Berman vomited after learning the sentence, which her supporters say does not reflect the severity of the attack or its lasting impact.

Joseph attacked Berman in March 2025 after she refused his sexual advances; her three-year-old daughter was in the next room. He also stole her phone and $5,700, and Berman spent 48 days in hospital, undergoing three surgeries and receiving blood transfusions. Joseph pleaded guilty to attempted murder, while prosecutors had sought a 10-year term; the judge also imposed five years of post-release supervision and an order barring contact. Berman’s supporters say they will seek a review of the sentence.
