Sascha Penn, creator of Starz's "Power Book III: Raising Kanan," has discussed how the series finale sets up a direct spin-off, "Power: Origins," which will bring together young versions of Kanan, Ghost and Tommy for the first time. The finale, which killed off major characters including Lou, Marvin and Raquel (Raq), is designed to explain how Kanan Stark became the character audiences already know from the original "Power" series, rather than serving as a conventional happy ending.

Penn revealed that fans had long asked to see young versions of Ghost and Tommy, and confirmed they were written into the show before "Origins" was even confirmed as a project. He also addressed the emotional post-credits scene, set on Kanan's birthday, in which most of the family have died except for new mother Raquel, noting the deliberate choice to feature an episode of the classic sitcom "Good Times" as a meaningful touch, given its personal significance to him.
