Project Hail Mary’s ‘untold chapter’ launches on Nov. 12
Andy Weir and entertainment studio Maze Theory are creating a mixed-reality experience that adds an “untold chapter” to *Project Hail Mary*. It follows Ryland Grace and his alien friend Rocky on their journey back to Rocky’s home planet, expanding the story beyond the events of the film and book.
In *Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars*, players take Grace’s role after the mission to Tau Ceti and tackle problems aboard the ship, using science or practical fixes. The experience turns players’ physical surroundings into parts of the Hail Mary, while Rocky helps manage tasks, inventory and cargo. It launches on 12 November for PICO, Android XR and Meta Quest 3 and 3S, with James Ortiz returning as Rocky’s voice.

Explained simply
Project Hail Mary is a science-fiction story by Andy Weir about Ryland Grace, a scientist sent on a mission to Tau Ceti to help address a threat to life on Earth. During the mission, Grace befriends Rocky, an alien with a similar goal for his own people.
The book and film focus on their work at Tau Ceti; the new experience follows them on the return journey to Rocky’s home planet. It is made by Weir and studio Maze Theory, with James Ortiz again voicing Rocky. The story continues the characters’ journey in a mixed-reality format, which places parts of the fictional ship into the player’s physical surroundings.
