Rescuers dig for bodies after Russia bombs humanitarian aid center to rubble, killing nearly all inside
Russian bombs destroyed an underground humanitarian aid centre in Komyshuvakha, a front-line settlement in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, killing dozens of people. The attack struck while residents were collecting aid, then hit again as civilians and emergency workers sought shelter, destroying a place that had offered protection and assistance.
By 6 November, officials had confirmed 53 deaths and reported 53 people still missing; police had located seven people previously reported missing, including Olha, who was found alive. Four people were hospitalised, including a 22-year-old woman with burns over 81% of her body. Rescuers can work only 15 to 20 minutes at a time because of continuing strike threats, while about 500 residents remain in the settlement and the route for future aid is unclear.
In short
- A bomb strike destroyed Komyshuvakha’s underground aid centre.
