Roxette’s ‘It Must Have Been Love’ Enters YouTube’s Billion Views Club

Billboard · 3 hours ago

Roxette's 1990 hit "It Must Have Been Love" has surpassed one billion views on YouTube, becoming the first video by the Swedish pop duo to reach the milestone. The song, released in 1987 but propelled to global fame after appearing in the 1990 film Pretty Woman, is remembered largely for late singer Marie Fredriksson's powerful vocal performance, which remains a defining moment of the era's romantic film soundtracks.

The single spent two weeks at No. 1 on the US Hot 100 in 1990, one of four Roxette songs to top that chart and the only one to hold the summit for multiple weeks, while it peaked at No. 3 in the UK. Fredriksson, who had 12 Hot 100 entries and three Billboard 200 albums with the group, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2002 and died of cancer in 2019 after a 17-year illness. Roxette, now fronted by co-founder Per Gessle alongside Lena Philipsson, are currently touring Europe to mark the 40th anniversary of their debut album.
