Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the third highest-grossing film of all time in America, cementing its status as one of the biggest box office successes in cinema history. The film's dominance follows a string of underwhelming Marvel Cinematic Universe releases in 2025, meaning expectations were relatively muted heading into 2026 — yet Tom Holland's return has proved a decisive box office draw, with the film topping weekly charts almost continuously since its late-July release.

The film broke records for the biggest opening weekend and biggest first-week haul in domestic history, and only briefly lost its top spot to the debut of Insidious: Out of the Further. It has now overtaken Avatar: The Way of Water to rank third worldwide, though closing the near-$3 billion (£2.4 billion) gap to Avatar globally looks unlikely. Domestically, it sits just $43 million (£34 million) behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, meaning it could realistically become America's highest-grossing film ever within weeks. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has said Holland and Zendaya will take a break after their promotional tour before any future Spider-Man plans progress.
