Stanley Kubrick, the Ultimate Outside-the-Box Director, Gets a New Box (Set)
Criterion is releasing *The Complete Kubrick*, a 30-disc collection bringing together every film Stanley Kubrick directed. The set matters because it includes his early work and *Fear and Desire*, which the filmmaker withdrew from circulation and which has not previously had an estate-authorised release.
Arriving on 20 October, it contains all 13 features and three shorts, plus more than 25 hours of additional material. The packaging takes inspiration from the labelled archive boxes Kubrick used, and includes posters, photographs and annotated documents; the collection also features newly approved discoveries, restored mono soundtracks and updated transfers of several films.
In short
- Criterion’s 30-disc set collects all 16 Kubrick films.
- It includes more than 25 hours of extras.
- *Fear and Desire* receives its first estate-authorised release.
