Spain has been struck by severe flooding across its eastern regions following its hottest summer on record. Torrential rain has submerged streets in Barcelona and along the Mediterranean coast, with a woman swept away by floods whilst in her vehicle near Barcelona currently missing. The extreme weather has caused widespread disruption to transport infrastructure and prompted emergency warnings across multiple regions.

Catalan emergency services responded to over 850 calls and dealt with more than 500 incidents caused by the downpours. In Valencia, rainfall exceeded 70 millimetres in just 30 minutes in several municipalities, with 478 weather-related incidents reported across the region. Infrastructure has been severely affected: metro lines were suspended in both Barcelona and Valencia, Barcelona's airport saw flights delayed or cancelled, 12 flights were diverted from Valencia airport, and a top-flight football match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. As a precaution, over 20 municipalities across Almeria and Murcia have suspended classes.
