“The Case of the Golden Idol-style deduction meets The X-Files”: Former BioWare devs unveil supernatural detective game The Eventide

Rock Paper Shotgun · 2 hours ago

Studio Reset, an indie studio founded by former BioWare developers, has revealed its supernatural detective game The Eventide with a debut trailer. The game combines investigative deduction mechanics reminiscent of The Case of the Golden Idol with an X-Files-style paranormal narrative, set in a reality-warping Canadian city rendered in a watercolour-painted, neon-noir art style.

Its central mechanic, "Parallax Deduction", requires players to select two detectives from the Eventide Agency's roster for each case, with each character interpreting clues differently depending on their expertise, be it material evidence, social dynamics, or psychic sensing. Creative director Kaelin Lavallee said the aim is to make investigations about experiencing cases through characters' perspectives rather than simply gathering clues. The game is now listed on Steam, though no release date has been announced.
