Trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and US set for November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi
US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff says trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States are scheduled for 10–11 November in Abu Dhabi. The meeting would bring the three countries together to discuss prospects for a peace agreement and security arrangements.
Witkoff said US negotiators will also meet European and NATO representatives in Brussels this week to discuss guarantees for Ukraine, Europe’s postwar security framework and reconstruction opportunities. Russia and Ukraine had previously said talks might follow the US midterm elections on 3 November; Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had suggested 10 November, subject to developments in the Middle East.
In short
- Russia, Ukraine and the US are due to meet in Abu Dhabi on 10–11 November.
- US officials will discuss Ukraine’s security and reconstruction with European partners.
- Zelensky had warned that Middle East escalation could affect the timing.
Explained simply
Russia and Ukraine have been at war since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. The United States has supplied Ukraine with military and financial support and has taken part in diplomatic efforts to end the fighting.
Any peace agreement would need to address the terms for ending hostilities and the security arrangements that follow. Ukraine’s European partners and NATO, the military alliance that includes many European countries and the US, are involved in discussions about future guarantees, regional security and rebuilding.
