Riots reportedly broke out in central London and Paris after France knocked Morocco out of the World Cup on Thursday night, with France winning 2-0 at Boston Stadium. Crowds flooded onto the streets of both capitals almost immediately after the match ended at 11pm UK time, and in London the gatherings turned violent, prompting a large police response.

According to the report, footage filmed on Edgware Road in west London showed at least four people believed to be police officers lying on the ground in apparent pain, with onlookers calling for an ambulance. Riot police wearing helmets and carrying shields were seen marching along the road near Marble Arch, and a large crowd gathered near the junction with Upper Berkeley Street chanting abuse at officers, who charged to disperse them. Other clips showed smoke from what appeared to be flares, flashing police vans and drivers honking their horns, with many in the crowd wearing red Morocco shirts.
