X tests pointing-arm animation beside Promote button in post composer
X is testing a brief animation in its mobile post composer, where an arm appears and points users towards the “Promote” button. The feature has confused some users, and could be a nudge to pay to boost posts, though X has not explained its purpose.
The button is shown to X Premium subscribers, but the animation has not appeared for everyone. Its arrival roughly coincides with Peter Sellis becoming X’s new head of product, prompting speculation about his involvement, but he has not commented. A Halloween prank is another possibility; neither X nor Sellis has confirmed what is behind it.
In short
- An animated arm points at X’s “Promote” button.
- The feature appears to be an experiment, but X has not explained it.
- Users have speculated it may be a Halloween prank.
