‘Woke madness’ as museum removes Egyptian mummies from display… as it did not have their consent

Daily Mail ·

Glasgow Life is removing mummified human remains from display at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, saying the decision reflects contemporary museum practice and respect for the deceased. The change has prompted criticism from Scottish Conservative culture spokesman Murdo Fraser and education campaigner Chris McGovern, who argue that displaying the remains helps visitors understand ancient Egyptian history.

The items include the remains of the priest Nekht in a painted coffin, a mummified male head, a right hand and a right foot. Glasgow Life said it is also removing archaeological human remains from two Kelvingrove galleries, with similar work planned at St Mungo Museum. Kelvingrove opened in 1901 and attracts more than 1.3 million visitors a year.
