Showrunner Jonathan Tropper said he was surprised that Jon Hamm was not nominated for an Emmy for Apple TV’s Your Friends & Neighbors, despite the programme receiving its first major Emmy recognition for its second season. Tropper described Hamm’s work as nuanced and exceptional, arguing that the actor’s portrayal of the central character’s decline should have been recognised.

Tropper said he had not expected the show’s Outstanding Drama Series nomination, as the production’s blend of drama, comedy and absurdism can make awards categorisation difficult. Season two was made more easily than the first because the characters and setting were already established, he said, and its success with viewers and critics suggested the programme had reached a higher level; season three is currently filming in Europe and begins two weeks after season two ends.
