IGN has reviewed "Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother," a crime drama starring Mahershala Ali as Latif, a devout hitman who must find breast milk for his infant daughter after his wife's sudden death. Directed by Bassam Tariq, the pair originally intended to collaborate on a Marvel Blade film that never materialised, but instead produced this personal project, inspired by Tariq's own experience feeding his newborn son whilst his wife was in intensive care. The film blends action with emotional authenticity, following Latif through mosques, strip clubs and rural Virginia as he juggles fatherhood, faith and a violent past.

Ali plays a sword-wielding contract killer and former Quran teacher bound by a strict, sometimes contradictory moral code, who is left to raise his teenage daughter, adolescent son and baby girl alone. The story draws in a wider cast including John Cho as a Confederate-flag-courting Evangelical pastor with a militant edge, and Laith Nakli as a security specialist offering help at a price, as Latif is drawn into a mission involving trafficking and pornography allegations. The film, released in US cinemas on 25 September and reviewed following its Toronto International Film Festival screening, is praised for depicting a fractured, satirical vision of modern America shaped by competing religious communities.
