The European Film Awards recognise achievements in European cinema, with films competing across categories such as fiction, documentary and animation. The European Film Academy organises the awards, and its members choose the nominees and winners.

The selection draws on films made across many European countries, so the awards offer a snapshot of the continent’s varied film industries. A place on a shortlist does not guarantee a nomination or a win, but it brings a film into consideration for one of Europe’s major cinema awards.
