Rafe Spall On Playing An Amnesiac Super Sleuth In ‘The Death Of Sherlock Holmes’: “This Is A Clean Slate”
The Death of Sherlock Holmes gives Rafe Spall a fresh take on the detective by placing him in the three-year gap after his apparent death at Reichenbach Falls. Found alive but with amnesia in the Swiss Alps, Holmes must recover his identity and powers of deduction while trying to solve a murder that has turned villagers against a young boy.
Spall says the character’s memory loss lets him approach Holmes without feeling bound by earlier portrayals. Deleila Piasko, who plays Alma, says the bond between her character and Holmes is central, as she is a single mother facing exclusion in her village. The series is a co-production involving Sky, Swiss broadcaster SRF, ARD Degeto and Sphere Abacus, and is set to air on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and Germany.
