BUCKCHERRY guitarist Stevie Dacanay ("Stevie D.") has spoken publicly for the first time about a fatal multi-vehicle crash involving the band's tour bus on 21 August 2026 on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He said the incident began when an apparently intoxicated man got out of his own car after a collision and was struck by another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction pile-up that ultimately involved the band's bus and several more cars. Everyone connected to BUCKCHERRY was unharmed, but Stevie D. used the interview to push back on sensationalised media and social media coverage that he felt exaggerated the band's role in the tragedy.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Toyota sedan struck the pedestrian, who had exited his vehicle following an earlier single-car crash and was pronounced dead at the scene; the highway was shut for several hours before reopening around 10:30am. Stevie D. said the band's bus was left undrivable and that they were stranded on the roadway from around 2am until 8am. He criticised outlets and YouTube videos that paired unrelated crash footage with images of the band to drive clicks, calling the coverage a "weird spin" on events.
