Fujifilm’s new instant camera adds a larger touchscreen and short video clips

The Verge ·

Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Evo 2 combines digital photography with instant printing, adding a touchscreen and limited video recording. The upgrades give users a larger screen and sensor, while keeping the camera’s film-style controls and effects.

The rear display measures 4.5 inches, and the sensor is 1/2.77 inch, up from 1/5 inch in the first Mini Evo. Video captures only a few seconds before a photo, at 560 × 992 pixels and 24 frames per second, without audio; clips must be saved to a microSD card. The camera prints 2 × 3-inch photos, charges via USB-C and will cost $290 when it goes on sale at the end of November, in black.

In short

  • The Mini Evo 2 adds a 4.5-inch touchscreen.
  • It can record short, silent video clips.
  • It costs $290 and launches in late November.

Explained simply

Instant cameras produce physical photographs shortly after a picture is taken, without sending the image to a separate printer. Fujifilm’s Instax range uses small film packs for these prints, while the Mini Evo also stores digital photos and lets users apply effects inspired by traditional cameras.

The Mini Evo 2 is a new version of Fujifilm’s Mini Evo, with a larger rear screen and a bigger image sensor. It also records brief, silent video clips linked to a photo, which need a microSD card to save. These additions expand what the hybrid camera can do while keeping its instant-print format.
