Men jailed after ‘Good Samaritan’ killing retrial
Two men have been jailed again after a retrial over the fatal attack on Reece Radford, who was stabbed after intervening to help a 17-year-old girl in Sheffield. The case matters because Radford died after trying to protect someone he had seen being assaulted, and the retrial changed one defendant’s conviction.
Louis James, 50, was convicted of murder and given a life sentence with a minimum term of 23 years; Dereck Owusu, 43, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 14 years. The pair had both been convicted of murder and jailed for life in 2023, but appealed successfully and faced a retrial. The attack took place in Arundel Gate in September 2022, and Radford died in hospital six days later.
