Square Enix accidentally botches a Nier: Automata update, balloons required file size from 50GB to 366GB on PC
A Steam update for Nier: Automata added Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese language support, but a bug has made the PC installation require 366GB instead of about 50GB. The unusually large requirement has frustrated players because the update is not optional, and Square Enix is investigating the issue.
The reported cause is that the YoRHa Edition’s DLC files have each been treated as the size of the base game, with the downloads stacking together. As a temporary workaround, Square Enix says players can uncheck the DLC in Steam’s Properties menu to install the base game; the publisher apologised and said it is working on a fix.
In short
- A Nier: Automata update raised the stated PC space requirement to 366GB.
- Square Enix says a DLC-related bug is responsible.
- Unchecking DLC in Steam is a temporary workaround.
